COVID UPDATES: No Covid prevention policy has been created for camp 2022. We anticipate that there will be no testing requirement.
August 10, 2021
Dear Camp Mattakeesett Families: Thank you for your patience and understanding as we prepare for Camp Mattakeesett in the time of a pandemic. Also, I want to thank you for your patience with me as I assume the leadership role of camp. As you know due to covid we have had to make adjustments to our usual drop off (and sadly pick up-more on that later) procedure. In order for drop off to go as smoothly as possible, we need full cooperation and everyone to follow the detailed instructions below. PLEASE CAREFULLY READ AND FOLLOW ALL INSTRUCTIONS. Before camp:

COVID RESOURCES
“COVID-19 tests are available at no cost nationwide at health centers and select pharmacies. The Families First Coronavirus Response Act ensures that COVID-19 testing is free to anyone in the U.S., including the uninsured. Additional testing sites may be available in your area. Contact your health care provider or your state or local public health department for more information.” |
Arrival at camp:
Also, please frequently check the website for updated information and a map of the drop off process as described herein.
- Arrive during your selected sign-up spot as close to the time as possible. We are on a tight time frame as we are receiving 20 campers in 15-minute increments. However, because of our self-selected staggered arrival approach, we will not be able to accommodate someone who shows up 15 minutes ahead of time. Those people will be sent away to come back during their time slot. Thank you in advance for your understanding, patience and cooperation with this new system.
- Campers with medications/covid test results not uploaded into campdoc by 7:00PM SHARP on 8/16 will turn into the large dirt parking lot on the right side of the street, across from Camp Robindel. The first “station” will be the camp medical staff who will review the medications at drop off. Stay in your car. The camp medical staff will come to you. Once you are through the medical staff, if you did not upload your negative test, you will need to go to the next station, so staff can verify the negative test result.
- Campers who have no medications and uploaded their covid test can go directly to the Camp Robindel driveway. Similar to school drop off, campers will hop out of the car on the right side; bring their luggage to the pre-marked spot (check map on website) and head directly to lice check. There will be staff to assist with luggage. Since drop off needs to be fast, please say your goodbyes in the car. Again, we are moving 20 campers through in 15-minute increments, so drop off needs to be fast and efficient. Thank you for your understanding.
- After dropping your camper off, please remain in the area for 30 minutes. During this time, your camper is undergoing a head lice check. If you do not receive a call within 30 minutes from the time you dropped off your camper, lice are not an issue and you are free to depart the area. If your camper does have lice, you will have the option of paying a fee to have her treated or you can return to pick up your camper.
Also, please frequently check the website for updated information and a map of the drop off process as described herein.
Pick -up Saturday 8/21:
As stated in the beginning of this letter, sadly, due to the pandemic, we will not be able to offer the traditional Camp Mattakeesett family picnic and show. Instead, we will be having a pickup process from 12-3 in which 40 campers will be picked up in 30-minute blocks. Please sign up for pickup here.
More detailed instructions about pickup will be sent.
During camp:
You will be able to access photos of your camper through the link to the Shutterfly share site on the Camp Mattakeesett website homepage and Facebook and Instagram. The password was included in the email version of this letter.
Also your camper will have an opportunity to buy a Camp Mattakeesett sweatshirt for $30. Please send her with either $30 or a check for $30. Unfortunately, due to covid, there will be a limited supply, so it will be first come; first serve.
Thank you again for your patience, understanding and cooperation.
Sincerely,
Mary Kate D’Souza
Director of Camp Mattakeesett

Dear Camp Mattakeesett families,
We are busily preparing for camp and are pivoting and adapting as needed during the pandemic.
As stated in my July 16th email, we need all campers to be tested for covid with the PCR test on Saturday August 14th, as early in the day as possible. (Some have requested that they be allowed an exception and be tested earlier on either Thursday or Friday and our camp medical staff has granted that exception provided the camper, post testing masks and adheres to strict social distancing protocol) This test is the gold standard and is recommended by the CDC and NH DPH. Some have expressed concerns about a possible delay in obtaining results. Our medical staff have been tested at various common sites: cvs; walgreens; urgent care etc and have obtained the results no later than 48 hours, which would allow for the test result to be uploaded into campdoc.
If you obtain your result on your drive to camp, the medical staff will accept the result by text, email or hard copy.
In the very worst case scenario, if a PCR test was taken and the results unavailable, the medical staff will accept a rapid test taken within 24 hours of arrival at camp. Based on searches done today, it is easier to schedule a PCR test in advance, than count on the availability of a rapid appointment. Additionally, there is a rapid testing kit that can be bought and those results used if you do not have your PCR test results and you cannot find a rapid appointment.
The medical staff would also like to remind all camp families that the best defense against covid is to take precautions such as frequent hand washing; wearing a mask; social distancing. It is especially important for campers to be mindful and take appropriate precautions starting today until arrival at camp.
I appreciate everyone's efforts to keep all members of the Camp Mattakeesett community safe and healthy and your understanding and patience as we navigate the challenges of the pandemic.
Thank you.
