CAMP ADMINISTRATION
Who is in charge of Camp Mattakeesett?
Camp Mattakeesett is run by an all-volunteer staff. The camp’s current director is Mary Kate D’Souza, the busy mom of two daughters and an attorney. She volunteers to run Camp Mattakeesett in order to give girls the opportunity to experience the faith, fun, friendship, and joy that is Camp Mattakeesett. While Mary Kate is responsible for all of Camp Mattakeesett, she does have support. Madeleine Lechner, a French teacher at Montrose School who is also studying for her Masters degree, is in charge of training the counselors and CITs. Other Camp Mattakeesett staff members lead the counselors/CITs and run the camp activities. Each cabin has its own counselor and CIT. It takes many dedicated volunteers to make the camp successful every year.

CAMP CONTACT INFORMATION
How do I contact the director of camp?
Please email: [email protected].
I emailed the camp, why haven’t I heard back?
The director of the camp is a busy wife, mother, and attorney. During the offseason, she checks camp email once a week. During July and August, you can expect replies within 48 hours.
The email response I received was abrupt and/or filled with spelling/grammatical errors. Why?
This is not intentional! The director apologizes if you received an email and appreciates your understanding that in her effort to quickly answer your email and many others, she doesn’t have the time to be chatty in email.
How can I contact my camper to find out how she is each day?
There is no way to contact her. It’s the old adage of no news is good news. Trust that she is having the time of her life. If your camper is struggling with homesickness and cannot be redirected, the medical staff will be in touch. For additional information about homesickness policy click here. You can check the website daily for updated photos. Note that the photos are password protected, so please check your email for this year’s password. (Passwords will be sent on or near the first day of camp.)

CABIN ASSIGNMENTS
How will I know what cabin my camper is assigned?
Each camper will receive a letter from her counselor introducing herself, the year’s camp theme, and the particular cabin theme. The director will email a chart that identifies which Camp Mattakeesett cabin theme is associated with a Camp Robindel cabin name. Please make sure that all luggage is clearly labeled with both the Camp Mattakeesett cabin theme and the Camp Robindel Cabin.
How are cabin assignments made?
Campers are assigned to a cabin based on school grade. Please note that if your camper is being homeschooled and by age would be in 5th grade but academically is doing 8th grade work, we will place her in a 5th grade cabin. Cabins are assigned to facilitate new and old friendships. Camp Mattakeesett has been in existence for 30 years. Many former campers have kept their camp friends and sometimes become college roommates. First time campers can make a friend request, and we make all efforts to honor that request within the bounds of the camp’s organization structure. For example, a rising 4th grader who requests to be placed with their rising 8th grader cousin will NOT be assigned to her cabin.

MISCELLANEOUS
Why can’t I help my camper unpack in her cabin?
Camp Mattakeesett rents Camp Robindel facilities. Camp Robindel requires all persons who enter camp grounds to sign a waiver and release. It is simply not practical for Camp Mattakeesett to manage all the extra work it would require to obtain those signatures. Accordingly, a system that was developed during the pandemic, has become the standard camp drop off and pick up. Camp Mattakeesett organizes a sign up genius for both drop off and pick up so that you can choose a time that works for you within the drop off and pick up window.
